Dear Ones,

How important is the Word?  It is everything!  Scripture tells us, "Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path," (Psalm 119:105).  The Bible gives us clear instruction regarding every issue of life.  All we need to do is follow the Word.  God's Word in Scripture is the primary way in which our Father communicates with us and guides us.  You don't need to look in a million different places to find your answers.  The Word tells us how to act and how to make decisions regarding every circumstance we can encounter.  It tells us how to treat our spouses, how to respond to our children and our parents, how to walk in love, how to forgive, when to stand our ground, how to pray, how to have name it.

If you are going through a trial, find the Word.  Do what it says; choose the way of light!  Jesus said in John 14 and 15, summarizing, that He did and said only what His Father told Him to do and say, that if we see Him (Jesus), we have seen the Father, and that it is the Father working in Him (and in us) that does the work.  So, how do we see Jesus today?  We see Him in the Word.  We follow His example.  Some might say, "Well, Lisa Marie, what about the Holy Spirit?"  Yes, Jesus told us He was going away, and God would send us another comforter and teacher, the Holy Spirit, but you know the Holy Spirit never tells us to do anything in disagreement with the Word.  Jesus said the Holy Spirit would remind us of everything He had said (Jn. 14:25-26).  So, yes, walk in the Spirit!  The Holy Spirit is essential!  Always, however, make sure when you believe you are listening to the Holy Spirit that it agrees with the Word.  The Holy Spirit will never contradict God's Word.

Remember also that God, through His Word, leads us in ways of peace; He does not cause discord or pain or confusion.  His way produces joy, love, peace; it works through patience, gentleness, kindness, faithfulness, goodness, and self-control (Gal. 5:22).  So, if you are doing something and it is stealing your joy, or if you are having to mistreat others to get something you want, or if you are making decisions that are causing confusion and strife, orif you are a young person and your decisions or associations are causing you to walk into rebellion against your parents' godly counsel or against God's Word, check yourself.  Go to the Word.  Seek out the Scripture; it may not tell you what you want to hear or do right now, but it will tell you to do what will end up bringing the biggest blessing in your life.  That's what God wants for you...blessing.  He is always seeking to bless you, and sometimes we have to make hard choices that don't bring us immediate gratification, or that may seem to take us down the more difficult road at first, but His Way, His Word will always be the easiest in the long run, the one with the least amount of complications and trouble in the end.  We know only in part, but He knows the beginning from the end.  His ways are higher than our ways; His ways are the more excellent ways; His thoughts are better than our thoughts.  The wonderful thing about it is that He reveals His ways and His thoughts to us in the Word – clearly.

Isaiah 55 says, "...listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.  Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live (v. 2-3)....As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts (v. 9)."  When we stand on His Word and do what it says, He makes sure it accomplishes what He desires in our lives.  His Word "will not return to [Him] empty, but will accomplish what [He] desire[s] and achieve the purpose for which [He] sends it (v.11)."  When you do what His Word says, you receive this promise: "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.  Instead of the thornbush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow (v. 12-13)."  Isn't that how you want every situation in your life to end up – with joy, with peace, with juniper and myrtle instead of thornbushes and briers?  Don't you want to eat what is good and delight in the richest fair?  You can have it!  Find the Word, and do it!
