Cast off the discouragement and the feelings that are connected with all the negatives that people spoke over you for years. If you don't cast them off, you will spit it out on someone else. "Let me tell you what my mama said to me." It's time to get over what your mama said to you. I mean, you are born again now. I don't care if she called you ugly or if she said you'll never amount to anything. Big deal! It's time to get over it!
Or you say, "you don't know what my husband said to me." Big deal! What did he say? "He called me a bad word." Get over it! Don't hold on to it for ten years. It's time to get over it. People will hold on to things that happened all the way back in their childhood or something that happened to them that was very painful. You have the power to get over it. It's a choice! Your choice!
One way to get over it is never to speak it again in your life. That's what I tell people. Never speak it one more time. Never tell another soul. A lot of fires will go out if you'll quit talking about it.
So the thought and the study you give to something will be measured back to you. Another way to get over the past is to allow the anointing of God to get in your mind and work on the inside of you. When the anointing of God is flowing, jump in a prayer line and say, "put your hands on my head, because I want the anointing of God transmitted to me." The anointing will have a numbing effect to the negative things that have happened to you or were spoken over you in the past.
When I go to the dentist, I would hate for him to tell me, "We need to fill a cavity, but I'm not going to give you a shot." Or, imagine a root canal without any Novocain! You might be tempted to say, "I know I'm a Christian, but if you're not going to give me a shot, let me go next door to get a fifth of whiskey!" Now, I know you wouldn't do that, but you might think it. You would say, "I've got to do something to deaden the pain if he's going to pull the tooth." This is what the anointing does. It comes on you and works for days. It deadens the place where you have pain so you can get healed. The anointing is like a balm-the balm of Gilead that Jeremiah spoke of. He said, "Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?" (Jeremiah 8:22)
Jeremiah was saying, "The balm is like salve that you would rub on to ease the pain. Do we have to live in misery all our lives? Do we have to live in shame? Do we have to be reminded of our past every day?"
In chapter 30, verse 17, Jeremiah said, "For I will restore health unto thee, I will heal thee of thy wounds...." But you can't get healed without the balm. The balm of Gilead gets on you and it is a deadening balm. It deadens the pain so you can recover from the past. That's what the anointing does. I mean the anointing will get on the inside of you. It will deaden you from the past so you can get over it and be healed from it. That's what people need because they can't recover without it.
